What Is Aqualyx?

Aqualyx is an FDA-approved, CE-marked and Medicines and UK Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MRHA) approved injectable treatment specifically formulated for non-surgical fat reduction. Developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, this biodegradable, water-based solution works by liquefying fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body over time.

Aqualyx is a compound solution from the deoxycholate family. It is made up several different plant-based compounds that have been refined in a lab environment.

How Does Aqualyax Work?

Aqualyx dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The fat cells become unstable and break open. The fatty acids contained within the cell are then eliminated by macrophages (part of the body’s immune system) and the liver.

The human body naturally stores fat to supply energy, however subcutaneous fat cells can be difficult to diminish. This is why fat dissolving injections are used to break this layer of fat down.

Aqualyx liquefies the fat cell, destroying it permanently, releasing the lipids that are then eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system.

Who's it suitable for?

If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle and are close to your ideal body weight but have isolated stubborn areas of fat, then Aqualyx might be suitable.
If you have significant weight then Aqualyx is not suitable for you.
If you have recently lost significant weight, then the area concerning you may be loose skin which can be improved with skin tightening treatments not fat dissolving injections.

Aqualyx is not suitable if you:

Are pregnant, breast feeding or undergoing IVF.
Have severe anaphylactic reactions or allergies.
Have any autoimmune diseases.
Have liver or kidney disease.
Are diabetic.
Any active skin infections in the area being treated.
Acute or chronic skin diseases in the area being treated.
On any blood thinning medication for example, Warfarin.
Are under the age of 18.
You have any important forthcoming engagements; due to the inflammatory response the body initially gives

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

The number of treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit. The treatment can be repeated up to eight times.

Typically 1-3 treatments are needed for a small area such as under the chin and 2-8 treatments are needed for larger areas such as the tummy and thighs.

Aqualyx can be repeated after 4 weeks if the post op side effects have settled. If the area is still tender you should wait another 2 weeks before treating again.

How long does the treatment take?

After a full consultation with Dr Chowdhury, a bespoke treatment plan will be devised. Treatment usually takes between 20-30 minutes but may take longer depending on the number of areas treated.
What results can I expect?

Results start to appear approximately 3-5 days after treatment and peaks at around 2 weeks. A complimentary top up at 2 weeks is available if necessary.
What are the risks and side effects of anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a relatively pain free treatment, with only mild discomfort during treatment. There may be mild soreness, swelling or bruising after the treatment which tends to subside after 24 hours.
Is there a down time associated with the treatment?

Most clients do not experience down time after treatment and can continue with their day as normal. Any swelling, redness or bruising tends to subside within 24 hours.
What is classified as one area?

The following are classified as one area: · Frown lines · Forehead lines · Crow’s feet · Bunny lines · Down turned Mouth · Gummy smile · Dimpled chin · Peri-oral lines More than one area can be treated in one sitting.
Do I need any follow up after my anti-wrinkle injection?

Yes, we will book you a follow up after 2 weeks and provide a free top up injection if required.

How long do the result last?

Duration of results varies from person to person depending on external factors such as metabolism. However, on average, results tend to last between 3-4 months after which you may wish to return for further treatment.
